A Polish delegation headed by Mr Marek Zdunek, Mayor of Goluchow, recently visited the Wessex Institute of Technology (WIT).

The delegation were shown around by the Director of the Institute, Professor Carlos Brebbia, who explained to them in detail the different activities that take place at Ashurst Lodge, with particular reference to those which could be of interest to Polish partners.

WIT organises a very successful International Masters Programme with several European countries as well as having many PhD students from the European Union. The Institute has also developed many strong links with Polish universities since a formal agreement was signed with the University of Silesia. A programme of conferences has been organised in Sczcezin in collaboration with the Technical University during the last ten years, which lead to a series of successful meetings on Marine Technology.

These and other activities have resulted in many contacts between WIT researchers and those in a variety of institutions across Poland.

The Mayor of Goluchow concluded his visit by congratulating Carlos on the achievements of WIT and hoping to strengthen the existing links. Goluchow is twinned with Southampton/Eastleigh and several initiatives are already taking place between the two cities.
