Discovering patterns of web site user behaviour for promotion purposes with the help of Kohonen neural networks and classification methods

andrey2.jpgAndrey Koryak has recently passed his MPhil viva at Wessex Institute of Technology with a thesis on "Discovering patterns of Web site user behaviour for promotion purposes with the help of Kohonen neural networks and classification methods". The external examiner was Dr. Andy Phippen from the University of Plymouth, UK and the internal examiner was Dr Viktor Popov.

The scope of his thesis is in the field of Data Mining applied to web-site promotion. The main goals were to analyze web traffic by means of data mining methods, to improve web promotion strategies and to conduct Search Engine Optimization (SEO) aiming to make a web-resource more popular and profitable. As a result of the investigation a new approach of website promotion was developed, which consists of combination of web site visitors clustering, investigation dependencies between such clusters and search engine properties, and the creation special conditions for efficient promotion.  As a result of his research both examiners recommended that Andrey Koryak to be awarded the degree of Master of Philosophy.
